With a 4: 3 win after penalty shootout against the Mannheimer HC, the women of the Düsseldorfer HC (DHC) won the German field hockey championship for the first time in early May 2021. A great success that not only inspired the coaching team and players, but was also cheered by club members, relatives, friends and supporters. The champagne corks popped at XSTAFF GmbH, one of the main sponsors of the women’s team.

“Of course we cheered and cheered. We are all the more pleased with the club’s success. At the same time, for us as a company, it is confirmation that we have made the right decision by supporting hockey both at the top and in the broad spectrum,” says XSTAFF managing director Bodo Knop. A commitment that Selin Oruz, one of the outstanding players of the new German champions, appreciates: “Since hockey is unfortunately still a fringe sport, our sport would never be possible to this extent and with this professionalism without sponsors like XSTAFF. The successes that we have been able to achieve in recent years are therefore also, and above all, based on their commitment. In this respect, our thanks also go in this direction.

In fact, XSTAFF has been accompanying the 1st women’s team of the DHC for years on their way to the top German, but also European: 2019 German indoor hockey champion, 2020 victory in the European Cup final and now winning the field hockey championship. And always there: Selin Oruz, who at 23 years old is already one of the veterans in the team. “For me there was never a life without sport, even if the balancing act between competitive sport and training was not always easy. This requires ambition and discipline, but above all having fun in what you do. Only those who bring that with them are able to achieve more and sometimes grit their teeth. “

The youth work suffers from Corona

Gritting your teeth – a skill that is currently also required by top athletes like Selin Oruz. The 23-year-old draws her motivation not to lose sight of her goals in the Olympic season and to continue training undeterred from her family environment: “Of course there are my family and my boyfriend who really support me in this difficult time support well.

Also, despite the 2020 postponement, I haven’t lost faith that the Olympics in Japan will take place in the summer. I am still convinced of that. ”As positive as this prospect is for her, she is also experiencing the cuts in her sport, especially for the children and adolescents, who in many places cannot pursue their hobby despite professional hygiene concepts and test strategies. “While we adults can continue our sport, young people are prevented from doing their sport in the open air. Not only is training time lost here, but also a lot of time together that can hardly be made up.

The team makes the difference

Nevertheless, the anticipation of the Olympic Games at Selin, which won the Olympic bronze with the national hockey team in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, is unbroken. Before that, however, we will go to the European Championships in the Netherlands, “Two such big tournaments in a short time – not only sporting ambition is required, but also a lot of logistical know-how. The XSTAFF experts could certainly be of great help,” jokes Selin. In any case, she sees numerous parallels between the logistics industry and her sport. “In both disciplines, team performance is decisive for success. Only if everyone is at the service of the team or the project team will it be possible to achieve the set goal, i.e. to score a goal or to deliver the container on time. At least in that respect, hockey players and logisticians are pretty similar. “

Olympia can come

Selin Oruz is still confident that both the European Championships and the Olympic Games will take place as planned. “First-class hygiene concepts were developed for both tournaments. I am therefore optimistic that we will be able to take part in both tournaments. ”Whether or not it will be enough to win a medal like in 2016 does not currently play a decisive role for her. “First of all, I’m grateful that we even have the opportunity to take part in the Olympic Games in these difficult times. I’ll let everything else come up to me first. ”At least one point she can be sure of today: The colleagues from XSTAFF will cheer her again this time and keep their fingers crossed that her sporting wishes will come true.
